Total cost of labor consists of the following components:

   Net wage
+ income tax
+ local government surtax
+ mandatory social contributions
= Gross wage
+ employer’s mandatory social contributions
= Total cost of labor*

 

 

Total number of employed persons in the Republic of Croatia is 1.228.000 people. Average monthly gross earning paid in Croatia in the period March-May 2009 amounted to 1055,24, and the average monthly paid off net earning paid in that period was 725.

Monthly paid off net earning includes income of persons in employment earned for the work done during regular working hours as well as for annual leave, paid leave, holidays and day-offs as defined by law, sickness pay for up to 42 days, absence for continuing professional education, lay-offs and job stops caused against a person’s will and of no fault of his or her own, and net pays on the basis of compensations, allowances and rewards in sums that are subject to contributions, taxes and surtaxes.

Average monthly gross earning includes all kinds of net pays on the basis of permanent employment plus participation, co-payments, contributions and taxes, as prescribed by law.

Average paid off net and gross earnings per person in employment are calculated by dividing the total pay-offs with the number of persons in employment.

 

In June 2009. average monthly paid off net earning by the hour was 4.13, and average monthly gross earning per hour was 5.98.

Paid hours include completed work hours (hours carried out in the regulary work time and overtime hours) and non carried out hours of work (vacation, holidays, sick leave less than 42 days, hours of maternity leave, abbreviated work hours of parents, etc.)

By law, every employee who is employed for more than 6 months on the same workplace is entitled to at least 18 working days annual leave.

In Croatia, annually, is 13 non-working days and holidays, and those non working days are paid like any other working day.
